The Plano City Planning and Zoning Commission this week gave approvals for the first phase of the big Legacy West development on the Dallas North Tollway.

The project at Legacy Drive and the tollway is being developed by Karahan Cos., Columbus Realty Partners and KDC.

The first 35.4-acre phase of the $2 billion project will start next month, developer Fehmi Karahan confirms.

Included in the first phase will be 784 luxury apartments, 280,000 square feet of retail and 260,000 square feet of office space.

There’s also a 300-room, $82 million Renaissance Hotel that will be built on Legacy Drive just west of the tollway.

All of this development is in the same area where Toyota Motor Corp. will build its huge new North American headquarters campus.

Legacy West’s developers are also working on plans for a high-rise condominium building that would be constructed at the north end of their mixed-use project.
