“Legacy West” Development Will Give Economic Boost To Plano

The city of Plano cleared the way for a huge new development Monday night that could be the biggest combination of urban living and retail of its kind in North Texas.
More than 200 acres of empty land may soon undergo massive construction.
J.C. Penney wants to rezone unused land around its corporate headquarters for a village of shops, restaurants, offices and a luxury hotel. The site is just down the street from the Legacy Town Center and is projected to grow even bigger.
Many Plano residents we spoke to couldn’t be more excited about the city’s latest economic boost.
“Allen has one of those and it would be good for Plano to have one of those, too. Besides I like the atmosphere of getting to shop and eat all in one big center,” said Plano resident Kendall Mares.
“Legacy West” is the name of the massive new development. The city has approved rezoning the property on the southwest corner of the Dallas North and Sam Rayburn Tollways.
“It’s going to be more jobs to the city. It’s the catalyst to bring more people to the city,” said Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere.
The expectation is that J.C. Penney, Fed Ex and incoming Toyota will incorporate their corporate headquarters near the site.
“The plans for development over there are going to be tremendous,” according to city council member Andre Davidson.
Construction on the first phase of the project should begin sometime in 2015.
